Moderate a Live Lesson and Review Attendance

The owning teacher or an admin can mute everyone, mute one person, or remove a participant from a live lesson, and can review each attendee's join time, leave time, and duration afterward.

For School administrators, Teachers. Updated 2026-09-18.

Overview

Moderation controls appear only for the lesson's owning teacher or an admin, inside the Participants tab during a live call: mute everyone at once, mute a single participant, or remove one from the room (a moderator cannot remove themselves). Removing someone ends their current connection, but nothing stops them from rejoining unless the lesson has ended.

Attendance is tracked using a presence heartbeat sent every roughly 35 seconds, so time-on-call stays accurate even if a participant's tab or browser crashes without a clean disconnect.

After a lesson, its detail page has a Participants view listing every attendee's join time, leave time, and total duration, which is useful for confirming who actually attended versus who only opened the link.

Before you start

Steps

  1. During a live lesson, open the Participants tab
  2. Select Mute everyone, or mute/remove an individual participant
  3. After the lesson, open its detail page and select Participants
  4. Review each attendee's join time, leave time, and total duration

Common problems

Mute or remove options aren't visible

Only the lesson's owning teacher or an admin sees moderation controls — other participants, including other teachers, do not.

A removed participant rejoined

Removal only ends their current connection; nothing prevents rejoining while the lesson is still live unless their access is revoked separately.

Attendance duration looks off for someone who lost connection

Duration is derived from periodic presence heartbeats, so a dropped connection is reflected once the heartbeat stops rather than the instant the connection actually failed.
