Attendance Insights: Rates, Chronic Absence and At-Risk Learners

Insights count present and late as attended, flag learners below 90% (chronic) and below 80% (severe) once they have at least 5 records, and compare with the previous period.

For School administrators, Teachers, Directors and proprietors. Updated 2026-10-09.

Overview

The Overview tab calls the insights service for the selected period (Last 7, 30 or 90 days) and optional class. Attendance rate is (Present + Late) divided by all records, so Late still counts as attended and Excused counts against the rate; a delta in points compares with the previous period of the same length.

Absences and Late arrivals show counts with excused totals and an on-time percentage.

Chronic absence counts learners with attendance below 90% who have at least 5 records in the period; severe means below 80%; perfect means no absences and no lates. 'Learners who need follow-up' lists up to 12 of the lowest-rate chronic learners with class, consecutive absences, last absent date and a mini history of recent statuses.

Panels also show a Daily attendance trend, Classes ranked from lowest rate, a Day-of-week pattern and Students vs staff comparison. Today's registers shows how many classes have a register saved and finalized today, and lists classes 'Not taken yet' (on weekends it treats the day as not a school day).

Open a single student's attendance insights from the Students page to see term, year, 30 day or all time views, streaks, an absence calendar, class rank comparison and which absences were covered by approved requests. Teachers only see their own classes.

Common problems

A learner with low attendance is not in the follow-up list

Learners need at least 5 records in the period before they are scored, and the list only shows the 12 lowest.

Attendance rate seems higher than expected

Late counts as attended in the rate. Use the Late arrivals card for punctuality.
