Add Beds and Assign Students

Add a batch of beds to a house, then assign students to empty beds one at a time or in bulk.

For School administrators, Staff. Updated 2026-08-01.

Overview

Beds are added to a house in a batch with a count and label prefix; new beds continue numbering from the current bed count in that house. A student can only occupy one bed system-wide: assigning them to a new bed automatically frees any bed they previously occupied.

Bulk assignment fills available beds in list order and will only assign as many students as there are empty beds, silently skipping the rest if there are more selected students than beds.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Open the house from Housing
  2. Select Add beds and enter a count and label prefix
  3. Select Assign student on an empty bed, or use Assign students for bulk assignment
  4. Use Unassign to free a bed

Common problems

A student cannot be selected for a bed

The student may already occupy a different bed elsewhere; assigning them to a new bed will automatically move them.

Fewer students than expected were assigned in bulk

Bulk assignment only fills as many beds as are available; add more beds first if more students need placement.

The student list used here is limited in size; very large schools may need to search more specifically or contact support.
