Generate, Approve, and Print a Payroll Run
Generate payroll from active staff assignments; recurring components repeat and one-time components are consumed after the run.
For School administrators, Accountants. Updated 2026-08-02.
Overview
Generating a payroll run calculates base salary, component earnings, employee SSNIT, Tier 2, PAYE, other deductions, gross pay, net pay, and the payslip breakdown for every Active payroll assignment with an Active salary setup. Recurring components remain on the staff assignment for future runs.
One-time components are included in the current run and removed from the assignment after generation. Once generated, approving a run marks it published and ready for payslips.

Common problems
Generating payroll fails with No active payroll assignments found
Check that at least one staff assignment and its linked salary setup are both set to Active status.
A one-time deduction disappeared after payroll generation
That is expected. One-time components are included in the generated run and then removed from the staff assignment so they do not repeat.
Employer SSNIT does not appear
Employer SSNIT is shown when the staff assignment includes the employee SSNIT statutory component and the payroll setting has a Tier 1 employer rate.
