Bulk Import Students from a CSV File
Use class codes or exact class names in the student template to match each learner to a class.
For School administrators. Updated 2026-08-01.
Overview
The student bulk importer accepts school-friendly class references and automatically uses the current academic year. Download the sample template first: it lists a class reference table mapping every class to a generated code such as C1, C2, in alphabetical order. Use that code, or the exact class name, in the classCode column.
Preview rows before committing them; each row is processed independently, so one failing row does not block the rest.
Before you start
- Create destination classes
- Set a current academic year
- Use the latest downloadable template
Steps
- Open Students > Bulk Upload Students
- Download the sample template and note the class reference table
- Fill the CSV using a class code or exact class name, plus optional fields like phone, gender, place of birth, and allergies
- Paste or upload the CSV
- Review the preview rows
- Commit the import and check the created and failed counts
Common problems
A class could not be matched
Use the exact class code (like C1) or exact class name shown in the class reference list next to the importer.
The import shows no preview rows
Confirm the CSV headers match the latest sample template and that each row has the required first and last name fields.
The whole import fails immediately
Set up a current academic year before importing; the import will not run without one.
A class code points to the wrong class after editing classes
Class codes are generated fresh each time from the alphabetical class list; re-download the sample template if classes were added, renamed, or removed since the last download.
