Create an Assessment

Create an assessment for a class and course with a category, type, total marks, and weight.

Overview

An assessment is a gradebook item of a chosen type, such as classwork, quiz, project, homework, or exam-type. Choosing a category can auto-fill the weight from that category's default. The course dropdown only shows courses already assigned to the selected class. A new assessment starts in Draft status and can only be edited or deleted while still a Draft.

Before you start

• Assign the course to the class first
• Add assessment categories, using Add Default Categories if none exist yet

Steps

1. Open Assessments
2. Select New Assessment
3. Choose the class, which resets the course field, then choose the course
4. Choose a category, type, total marks, weight, due date, and term
5. Confirm and create

Common problems

The course list is empty for a class

Assign the course to that class first under Class Assignments.
