Mark Staff Attendance Manually and Fix Missing Check-in Times
The Staff switch in Log Attendance saves a status per staff member for a date and offers a Fix missing check-in times button.
For School administrators, HR managers. Updated 2026-10-09.
Overview
In Log Attendance choose Staff. Pick a Date; all staff from the school's staff list load defaulting to Present (or their saved status for that date). Statuses are Present, Absent, Late and Excused with Mark all for Present or Absent and a live present percentage.
Save staff attendance asks for confirmation then upserts one record per staff member per day, so saving again the same day updates it. Present and Late records get a check-in time of now if none is supplied. If saved Present or Late records have no check-in time (for example older entries) a Fix missing check-in times button appears and fills them.
Manual saves need the “add attendance” permission and are audit logged as attendance.mark_staff. Staff history by date is under History > Staff logs. Manual marks and clock-in scans write to the same daily staff record, so a manual save after someone clocked in updates their status but keeps their recorded check-in time.
Before you start
- The “add attendance” permission permission
- Staff accounts exist (teachers and employees)
Steps
- Open Attendance > Overview & Logs > Log Attendance
- Switch to Staff
- Choose the date
- Set each person's status or use Mark all
- Select Save staff attendance and confirm
- If the button appears, select Fix missing check-in times
Common problems
No staff found
The staff list is empty or you lack access to staff options. Add staff under People or HR first.
Marking everyone present overwrote clock-in statuses
Saving applies the status shown in the drawer. Check the date and reload before saving so scanned lates are not replaced.
Teacher cannot see staff history
Staff logs are hidden from teachers.
