Schedule an Exam and Build Its Paper
Schedule an exam with class, subject, start/end window, access rules, optional PIN locking, and matching question-bank items.
For School administrators, Teachers. Updated 2026-08-10.
Overview
Scheduling an exam requires a title, class, subject, academic year and term, duration, total marks, start date/time, end date/time, and an access setting for either the entire class or a manually selected subset of students. Exams may be open or locked with a 4 to 8 digit PIN.
The end date/time defines the availability window instead of assuming a fixed 24-hour day. A new exam starts in Draft status. Building the paper attaches existing question bank items to the exam; already attached questions are excluded from the available list, and paper changes are blocked once submissions exist.
Before you start
- Set the current academic term
- Have active question bank items available for the same class and subject
Steps
- Open Exams > Schedules
- Select Schedule exam and complete the details in the drawer
- Choose the class, subject, academic year, term, duration, total marks, start date/time, and end date/time
- Choose whether access is the entire class or selected students
- Choose Open access or Locked with PIN; locked exams require a 4 to 8 digit PIN
- Confirm and save the schedule
- Open Paper on the exam row
- Add matching bank questions to the paper
Common problems
No students appear for Selected access
Confirm the class has active students enrolled before choosing Selected access.
The schedule will not save
Check that the end date/time is not before the start date/time and that locked exams have a 4 to 8 digit numeric PIN.
Expected questions are missing from the paper builder
The paper builder filters out questions already attached to the paper and should show questions for the scheduled exam's class and subject.
A question cannot be removed from a paper
Questions can only be removed while there are no submissions for that exam. Once a student has submitted, keep the paper fixed.
