Close, put on hold or delete a job posting
Change a posting's Status to On hold or Closed to stop applications while keeping its applicants. Only postings with no applicants can be deleted.
For School administrators, HR managers. Updated 2026-10-09.
Overview
To stop receiving applications, edit the posting and set Status to On hold (paused) or Closed (finished). Either automatically switches off public applications and the application link then shows that the position is no longer taking applications. Existing applicants, interviews and offers are kept.
A posting also stops taking applications on its own once the Closes on date has passed. Delete is available in the Job postings list (trash icon) only for postings with zero applicants and needs the “delete recruitment” permission; the confirmation says "Delete [title]? This cannot be undone." and the toast reads "Job posting deleted"..
You can reopen a closed posting by editing it back to Open and then switching on "Accept applications online" again. Individual applicants who should be removed can be deleted from their own page, except Hired ones.
Before you start
- The “edit recruitment” permission to close or hold, the “delete recruitment” permission to delete
Steps
- Open Recruitment > Job postings and click the posting.
- Click Edit and set Status to Closed (or On hold).
- Save. Public applications are switched off automatically.
- To delete an empty posting, click the trash icon on its row in the list and confirm.
Common problems
There is no delete icon on my posting.
The icon only appears for postings with no applicants and for users with the “delete recruitment” permission. Close the posting instead.
I closed the posting but the link still shows it.
Refresh the page; the link now shows it is no longer taking applications. Public pages never list closed postings.
I reopened the posting but candidates still cannot apply.
Reopening does not turn public applications back on. Use Configure & share > "Accept applications online".
