Configure Fee Receipt Printing and SMS
Turn on automatic A5 receipt printing and/or an SMS receipt confirmation for every fee payment, with an optional footer note.

Overview
Settings > Fee Receipts controls what happens immediately after a fee payment is recorded in Payments. 'Print receipt after payment' automatically opens an A5-sized print preview of the receipt as soon as a payment is saved, instead of just closing the payment drawer as before. 'Send receipt after payment as SMS' texts the paying guardian a short confirmation of the amount received, plus the optional footer note, right after the payment.
The SMS receipt only goes out when the toggle is on, the student has a guardian on file with a phone number, and the school has enough SMS balance for at least one unit; if any of these is missing, the SMS is silently skipped and the payment itself still succeeds normally, with no error shown.
This SMS toggle is independent of the general SMS notifications toggle in Settings > Notifications, which only affects broadcasts and fee reminders, not fee receipts.
The optional 'Receipt lower footer note' (up to 300 characters) appears at the bottom of both the printed receipt and the SMS receipt, useful for a thank-you message or a payment policy reminder.
The Receipts tab can also be granted narrowly via the “view school receipt” permission/the “edit school receipt” permission instead of the blanket “edit school settings” permission.
Before you start
- Use an administrator account
- Maintain SMS balance if SMS receipts are wanted
Steps
- Open Settings > Fee Receipts
- Toggle Print receipt after payment on to auto-open an A5 print preview after each payment
- Toggle Send receipt after payment as SMS on to text guardians a receipt confirmation
- Enter an optional Receipt lower footer note
- Each toggle and the footer note save immediately
Common problems
Why are users not receiving SMS after making a fees payment?
Check three things: 1) 'Send receipt after payment as SMS' is turned on in Settings > Fee Receipts, 2) the student has a guardian linked with a valid phone number, and 3) the school has SMS balance remaining. If any of these is missing, the SMS is silently skipped rather than shown as a failure, and the payment still records normally.
The print preview does not open after a payment
Turn on 'Print receipt after payment' in Settings > Fee Receipts; without it, the payment drawer simply closes after saving, as before this setting existed.
The receipt SMS or printed receipt is missing the footer note
Save a 'Receipt lower footer note' in Settings > Fee Receipts; it is blank by default.
