Register and Check an SMS Sender ID
Register a unique school Sender ID, then check its mNotify approval status.
For School administrators. Updated 2026-08-08.
Overview
Sender ID stores the approved name shown on outgoing SMS messages. The sender name must be 3-11 characters and the purpose must be at least 8 characters. Any name containing "myschoolgh", in any capitalization, is reserved and cannot be registered by a school. A sender name already claimed by another school cannot be reused.
Successful sender name changes are limited to 3 over the school's lifetime. The Sender ID tab can also be granted narrowly via the “view school sms” permission/the “edit school sms” permission instead of the blanket “edit school settings” permission.
Before you start
- Choose a short sender name that represents the school (3-11 characters)
- Prepare a purpose statement of at least 8 characters
Steps
- Open Settings > SMS Sender ID
- Enter the sender name and purpose
- Select Register Sender ID
- Read the returned status
- Select Check Status until approval is confirmed
Common problems
Sender ID already exists
If the name belongs to another school, choose a different sender name; if it already exists with mNotify but is unclaimed, use Check Status instead of registering again.
The reserved MySchoolGH name is rejected
Choose a sender name based on the school's own identity instead of MySchoolGH.
Sender ID change limit reached
Successful sender name changes are capped at 3 per school; contact support to change it again.
