Create an Academic Term

Create a term such as Term 1, linked to an existing academic year, with its own start and end dates.

For School administrators. Updated 2026-08-01.

Overview

A term belongs to one academic year and drives attendance, fee billing, assessments, results, report cards, and academic activity for that date range. The academic year must already exist before a term can be created.

When preparing for rollover, create the upcoming term in the upcoming year and mark it as Next so it can be promoted automatically when the current term is closed.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Open Setup > Academic Years & Terms
  2. Select New term
  3. Choose the academic year
  4. Enter the term name (e.g. Term 1)
  5. Set the start and end dates
  6. Choose whether to make it current
  7. Save

Common problems

The term cannot be saved

Use a name between 2 and 60 characters and confirm the end date is on or after the start date.

The academic year is not in the list

Create the academic year first under Academic Years & Terms.

The term cannot be selected as next during closure

The next term must belong to the selected next academic year and must start after the current term.
